Team building exercise on day one of orientation with a group of 45?

By Emily On January 14, 2010 1 COMMENT

I am conducting an orientation for new employees to a brand new restaurant. I need a team building/ ice breaker for them to do at the end of the day today. It is for a restaurant and the median age is about 30 for these people. Today is just basic…. handbook, expectations, etc. Please any ideas would be great!

In a restaurant, get teams of 3 or 4 people and give them a list of ingredients, no recipe.

Tell them to create a masterpiece out of it.

Can any recommend team building activities for students?

By Emily On January 9, 2010 4 COMMENTs

I am teaching a drama class and everyone in it is very different. I am trying to come up with ways I can force them all to bond…lol… But I know all the team building games. Has anyone had any success in having kids get to know one another through little interviews or something like that?

Yeahh! we did one at school where we had to make up a chatshow!! Was really fun….we all had different roles but we weren’t allowed to make up lines or have scripts! I learnt alot about other people on that day xx

Now please answer mine!!

Themed Party Ideas for a Team Building Day

By Emily On January 5, 2010 NO COMMENTS

Team building days are events that are usually planned by employers. These types of days usually involve different types of cooperative activities and social designed to unify groups of employees.

Theme parties are one type of event that is usually planned towards the end of a team building day. These types of activities usually involve bringing out more of the fun and creative side of most people.Different types of themed party days that have been planned include Wild West, James Bond, and Tropical Island themed parties. A variety of activities are planned at one of social events.A Wild West party could include one or more of the following events: dressing up as a cowboy/cowgirl, participating in a Wild West shootout (a duel), and riding a simulated bull. Other activities may include participating in a saloon poker game (and perhaps even real or fake cigars will be provided for extra effect).

By Emily On January 5, 2010 1 COMMENT

I’m doing a project on the effectiveness of team building in the workplace. Is there anyway to get good statistics on the cost and results of team building (changes in productivity)?

Also I heard a rumor that the Harvard Business Review has an article on Toyota toting team building and that there was new data coming out disputing Toyota’s claims. However I can not find it, do I have the wrong website, search terms?

I think that the article from the Harvard Business Review you are referencing is:

The Contradictions That Drive Toyota’s Success.Takeuchi, Hirotaka; Osono, Emi; Shimizu, Norihiko. Harvard Business Review, Jun2008, Vol. 86 Issue 6, p96-104

You can read an abstract of it at the Harvard Business Review site:

However, in order to read the whole article, you will either need to purchase it from the website or check to see if your local public or academic library has a subscription (either print
