Team building exercise on day one of orientation with a group of 45?

By Emily On January 14, 2010 Under Challenge Programming

I am conducting an orientation for new employees to a brand new restaurant. I need a team building/ ice breaker for them to do at the end of the day today. It is for a restaurant and the median age is about 30 for these people. Today is just basic…. handbook, expectations, etc. Please any ideas would be great!

In a restaurant, get teams of 3 or 4 people and give them a list of ingredients, no recipe.

Tell them to create a masterpiece out of it.

Another way to get them involved and used to working in tight quarters similar to that of a kitchen is human knot. If you aren’t familiar with this activity, it is where the participants reach across a circle, grab a hand (so their right hand matches with an opposing member and the same for the left), and then they proceed to “untie” themselves. Two teams would be effective with a group of 45, possibly three depending on what outcome you wish to achieve.

The comment above mine had a really unique idea.
