Prior Learning Assessment Credits?

Hello, and thank you for taking the time to answer my question.

Have you personally submitted a PLA (experiential learning), and received college credits for it? How hard is it? I am left with still many questions about it, I am trying to get moving on it immed. but my University isn’t providing enough info on the website.

I understand it to be formatted in essay style using Kolbs, got that. I further understand that it is to be in APA format, do you include the running header? I see it says not to use references, but to reference source of information, so does that mean to use it in citations page, or not. Can it be in a word doc, or does it have to be a jpg.?

Is there anything else I am unaware of, and should know before submission?

How do I ask for more responsibility at work?

I have a 5 year dual degree in music business management and music production and engineering from a very reputable school. I work for a major music corp as an administrative assistant; have been here 8 months now. Lately, I have been extremely bored and under-challenged. I’ve asked my bosses for more work, but they just give me more meaningless tasks like filing or organizational stuff. Nothing challenging, nothing rewarding. I push paper around. I feel extremely under appreciated and underutilized, considering the skill sets I brought into this job from my education, experiential learning and other professional experience in the industry. What other approaches could I use to ask for more responsibility? I WANT a challenge, I WANT to work hard, yet I feel that my best efforts to communicate this have fallen on deaf ears. I am extremely frustrated. Any strategies would be helpful!!!

What you are looking for is a different job where you can apply your talents more within the company. Taking an administrative assistant job was not necessarily a bad thing to get your foot in the door of this company. What you need to do now is to do a great job as an administrative assistant so you have a good reputation and and to build a relationship with as many managers within the company as you can. One technique for doing this is to set up informational interviews with various managers. Tell them you want to learn more about their area so you can identify areas you might be able to make an impact in the future. Most are too nice to say no. Impress them when you meet with them. Research their area in advance and ask good questions. Even better, bring ideas that you may have learned in school that might be relevant to their area of the business. Somewhere in the discussion work in that you have dual degrees and are hoping to develop higher level opportunities over time. Make sure the discussion is about them and not you though. Learn whatever you can about the person and use it as an excuse to stay in touch with them (don’t be an irritant though – do something like email them an article that you think they would be interested in). Write it all down after the meeting so you don’t get one manager’s interestes confused with another. Good luck

do you think there is an ethical problem with…?

Do you think there is an ethical problem with…..?(revised question)?
allowing students at the undergraduate level to participate in practicum for counseling? Even with supervision? if you feel there is, than what about when the military trains people to become counselors, and they counsel even thought they do not have a degree? And i know this because my father was in the military and that was his job and he never finished getting his BA. Here is the class description of undergrad practicum:
PSYC 4191-4991 Practicum: Psychology
experiential learning course in which psychological theories and basic counseling skills are applied in working with individuals, families and groups; students are assigned to agencies under professional supervision and complete a final paper integrating counseling theory and technique with applied experience. Psychology majors or consent of instructor. May be repeated, may not earn more than nine hours total.
Prerequisites: ENGL 1313 & 1314, PSYC 1305, PSYC 3334 or PSYC 3335, PSYC 3336

for undergraduate level i feel there is no problem. that is course level work and the person needs to get clinical experience. the military on the other hand trains people to do a lot of things, and certifies people to do a certain job whereas in the civilian world their skill is not recognize. An understanding in PSYC is need to do a job as a counselor, but a degree is certainly not needed. Counselors are their to help someone get the help needed for certain issues. To direct them in the direction they may need to go. It is up to psychologists, and psychiatrist to treat people and diagnose(MD only of course) them. I am in the military and i have lots of training that in the civilian world mean nothing.
